The English students at Woodhouse High School in Tamworth, Staffs., submitted their 2,000 word Shakespeare assessments earlier this month.

It is alleged the teacher, who has not been identified, re-wrote some answers and forged signatures so that they earned better marks.

However, pupils complained to the headmaster that it was not their work and the teacher has been suspended while an exam board investigation is carried out.

One youngster said: ''I'd put a lot of effort into that piece of work and it's heartbreaking that somebody changed it.

''I'd rather have my own work back with a lower mark because then I can improve it myself.
