BYOT – Bring Your Own Technology

First, there is this

It is great on many levels, not least for the fact that it was done by a 17 year old. It shows quite how many different apps and the like there are out there and how they might reduce the need for pen and paper schools.

Then there is this from CNN.

What struck me about this latter one was the BYOT. There is no “Worship at the temple of Mac”, there is no “PC means proper computer”. Just a bring your own technology mandate. Yes, it makes for more of a headache for sysadmins but I think it is easy to brush aside. The tools the children use in a school to network presumably need to be ones they are familiar with. It should be the school’s responsibility, I think, to be able to interface with whatever piece of mobile learning technology the child brings, be that ipad, android phone, netbook or Linux box on wheels.
